What is ILLiad?

ILLiad is the electronic system you use to request an item through Interlibrary Loan. The name ILLiad can be thought of as an acronym for InterLibrary Loan internet accessible database.

What are ILLiad's advantages?

What if I don't have a barcode or I don't know what my barcode is?

You can find your barcode on the front of your UGACard picture ID. If you don't have a UGACard picture ID, you can contact the Libraries' Access Services Department to find out what your barcode is. If they determine that you do not have a barcode assigned to you, and if you are eligible, they can create a barcode for you.

What Web browser should I use?

You need a Web browser that can handle forms, tables, and, preferably, one that can handle frames.  We recommend Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 or greater.

Is security a problem if I use a public workstation?

Not if you close the web browser when you are finished. Web browsers cache information and create a history file on the local workstation. This allows a subsequent user of the workstation to access the system under your name using the browser's Back button to recall a page from the cache, or by finding a page with your personal information in the browser's history file. If you are concerned about the security of your interlibrary loan requests, make sure that you close the browser before you leave the public workstation.

Who is eligible for electronic delivery of articles?

Patrons that are eligible to use a valid UGA Account Number to pay for their articles can choose to receive them electronically. The usual syntax for account numbers is 111-11AA111-111 (1=number; A=letter). Check with your department if you are unsure whether or not you are eligible to use an account number to pay for interlibrary loan charges. Articles that are received electronically from other libraries will be forwarded to eligible patrons electronically. They can be accessed from your ILLiad account (main menu, view/download electronic articles option). You will be notified by email when they are available.

Why does my browser say that you're sending a cookie? What's in it?

The Active Server Pages technology that we use to provide live reporting for the web sends a Session ID to be stored on your machine. You can refuse this cookie and still be able to use the ILL web pages and  ILLiad without any problems.
